Bendix-McDougal Residence Accessible Remodel

Buying a two-story house in San Francisco's Glen Park neighborhood, a couple set out to remodel, expand space and improve wheelchair accessibility.

The building's roughly finished ground floor had provided parking and storage. Redesigned, it became a master bedroom and bath, sunroom, exercise area, kitchenette and laundry room, along with entrance and garage. A new interior staircase and an elevator connected the two floors, with rear decks added on both levels.

The second floor now features an expanded kitchen, a wider hall for better mobility, and a remodeled bathroom, as well as a living room, guest bedroom, office, and dining area. From the ground floor deck, a ramp and staircase lead to the backyard with a new accessible greenhouse and garden seating area.
